RAPIDO is an EU-funded project focusing on the development of fast optical communication techniques for high performance computing (HPC) systems. The ultimate goal is to increase the computing power, data rate and power efficiency of supercomputers, backbone routers, large data storage systems and other HPCs. To achieve its goal RAPIDO aims to make breakthroughs in component, integration, packaging and communication technologies by introducing novel ideas and by challenging conventional approaches. This 3-year project was launched in the beginning of 2014.
The RAPIDO consortium consists of seven partners that combine their complementary expertise to meet the ambitious goals of the project. They cover the innovation chain from basic and applied research to commercial volume manufacturing, as well as the integration path from chips and small modules to very large systems.
